1st Brunei Bike Week will be held soon in 2010

Road Trip to Labuan for the BIIBBF event.

The 'Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival' was held from the 18-20th December 2009 in Labuan F.T. Harley Owners Group - BRUNEI CHAPTER was also invited for this annual event in Borneo Island. 22 HOGB members rode their Harley bikes to Labuan and for some it was their first long ride. Although the weather was HOT, all of us enjoyed the ride from Brunei to Labuan. We started our road trip at 8.30am where we were escorted by the Limau Manis Police to the Kuala Lurah Control Post. The queue was very long and we were glad that we managed to cut queue with the assistance of the Police.

We did few stops for petrol i.e. Temburong and Sipitang. We stopped for lunch break at Beaufort around 1.45pm before proceeding to Menumbok at 3.00pm where we have to take the ferry to Labuan which was supposed to arrive at 4.30pm. Finally the ferry arrived around 6.00pm and we reached Labuan at 8.00pm. Once in Labuan we were escorted by the organiser to the 'welcoming dinner'.

The next day event was held near Sara hotel in the centre of the city. There were competitions, stalls, live band and also bike show. Later in the afternoon we went for a ride together with the other participants. We stopped at a place near the beach and were treated with coconut drink, pulut panggang & kelupis with yummy beef curry. The event ended with a dinner and exchange of momentous.

Next year Brunei will host the BIIBBF 2010.

The objective of this event is to collect as much contribution as we can for the victims of earthquake in Indonesia and victims of flooding in Philippines. Personal contribution from the members were collected and part of the sale from the tee-shirts will be donated to the unfortunate victims.

Thank you for all the members who took part and also for their kind donation. Pictures from the event are also posted in this blog.

Harley Owners Group - Brunei Chapter celebrate Raya with the Labuan Black Eagles

Hari Raya is all about fostering closer relations and renewing ties with friends and relatives. On the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, we usually ask for forgiveness from those we have wronged over the past year, particularly our parents and other family members. This is usually done after Aidilfitri prayers.

Enter the season of open houses. While the first day is usually reserved for family and close relatives, the open house gatherings that follow will usually show a broadening of scope to include friends and more relatives.

The pace of celebrations won’t slow down for another week or two, after which celebrations will still carry on but with slightly reduced intensity.

But as Raya celebrations start to wind down in houses – and in some cases, offices – we bikers start to get excited again. Why is it another peak in the Hari Raya celebration? For members of the Harley Owners Group Brunei Chapter, this is the time in which they set off to Labuan to meet with fellow bikers, thereby spreading the Brunei Raya spirit to their counterparts in neighbouring Malaysia.

After all, Brunei is renowned throughout the region as one of the few countries that hold Raya celebrations well into the closing days of the month of Syawal.

In this year’s celebration, 20 bikers rode their Harleys some 300 kilometres to celebrate Hari Raya with their counterparts in Labuan. Thundering down the road, the Harley entourage would awaken the sleepy towns and lonely villages in its path, leaving behind smiles and excited waves from not only the children that ran to the side of the road just to see the bikes, but also from the older generations who’d find the momentary change of scene quite amusing.

The Brunei leather-clad bikers were welcomed on arrival in the city by the Labuan Black Eagle Riders, led by Dato Suhaili Abd Rahman. For three days the Black Eagles watched over the members of the Harley Owners Group Brunei Chapter like a mother eagle, making sure that all arrangements including accommodation and food were in order.

Dato Suhaili said the joint celebration showed that the biking hobby is a hobby that transcends borders, and that the brotherhood and bonds between the bikers from various states and countries make biking an activity that not only portrays the good image of brotherhood but is also one that fosters closer relations between bike enthusiasts across the island of Borneo. One of the members of the Brunei group described the generous hospitality rendered by the hosts as “overwhelming and heartfelt”.

The Hari Raya ride to Labuan was part of a return gesture by the Brunei group to its Labuan counterparts. In July this year, the Black Eagles swooped down to Brunei to join in His Majesty’s 63rd Birthday celebrations.

The Harley Owners Group Brunei Chapter played host to the joint celebrations, along with PEMODA.

2009 Sungkai Ride to ARCH, Gadong

YOU might have heard the roar of motorcycle engines along the Tungku Link highway last Saturday, and was amazed to see a sight of more than 40 Harley Davidson motorcycles being ridden towards Gadong.
The entourage in fact consisted of members from the Harley Owners Group Brunei (HOGB) chapter, on their sungkai ride, from the Harley Davidson dealership in Lambak industrial area on the way to The Arch in Gadong. The sungkai ride was organised by the HOGB chapter working committee, who are stepping up efforts to contribute to the community by organising fundraising activities for orphans in the country. The chapter members had a fulfilling buffet of good food and later in the evening, members were briefed regarding future events being organised by their chapter — among them, the Labuan Hari Raya Ride, Brunei Hari Raya Ride, as well as other upcoming events.

The ride was a success and the working committee is looking forward to organising another one next year in the hope of it becoming an annual event. HOGB thanked Harley Davidson of Brunei as well as members of their chapter for their continuous support throughout the years since its establishment in 2007.
