H.O.G. Brunei Chapter - 'MILLION MILE MONDAY'

On Monday, June 27, the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) invites riders of all motorcycles to join its members around the world as they band together in their quest to cumulatively log millions of riding miles by the day’s end.

Launched in 2008, Million Mile Monday is an annual event on the last Monday of June that brings together H.O.G. members from around the world in a day of riding for no specific purpose other than to celebrate the joy and freedom of the open road on a motorcycle. In 2010, H.O.G. members collectively logged more that 4,000,000 miles, and this year the club hopes to raise the total even higher.

“Inviting riders of other motorcycle brands to join our members on Million Mile Monday is all about sharing the passion for riding and the
Harley-Davidson brand that makes the Harley Owners Group such a unique riding club,” said H.O.G. Manager Joe Dowd. “Plus it’s just a great reason to get out on the road and ride, regardless of what motorcycle you own.”

Whether it’s a ride across town or cross-country, or simply around the block to work, every mile counts and can be recorded by logging into H.O.G.’s online mileage accumulator at h-d.com/mmm, where a rolling odometer will record every mile logged by participants in Million Mile Monday. At the completion of the ride, a commemorative certificate of participation can be printed to display each rider’s mileage total for the day.

The 12th Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival (BIIBBF) 2011, which was held from June 10 to 12, has convened more than 480 owners and fans of big bikes from all over Borneo.

This was the largest number of participation ever recorded since the festival was held back in 2000. Making the festival even better, representatives from Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Switzerland and USA also took part.

Harley Owners Group Brunei (HOGB) led by its director, Abdul Malek Hamdani, was represented by 32 participants including two women members from HOGB committee members - Ladies of Harley, Nur Khadijah Ismail and Editor of HOGB, Dk Siti Redzaimi Pg Hj Ahmad.

The festival also saw the participation from few Brunei motorcycle associations such as the Brunei Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA), Kembara Association, Independent Motorcycle Club (IMC), Rebel Angels and Sportbikerz.

Brunei participants were given a grand welcome by the organisers of the 12th BIIBBF 2011, the Sabah Big Bikers Club (SBBC) with a welcome dinner at the Sutera Harbour Resort.

The following day, they were given a tour to some of the main attractions in Sabah such as Kota Belud, Ranau and Kundasang in a convoy with their own motorcycles.

A motorcycle exhibition was also held for the public to view at the Gaya Street and games and activities were lined up for the participants to enliven the festival.

At the end of the festival, a farewell dinner was held at the Asia City Conference Hall and the guest of honour was the Chairman of the Sabah Tourism Board, Tengku Zainal Abidin who presented all the motorcycle club's presidents with a certificate of participation and it was followed by a memento exchange between all the clubs.

The highlight was the handover of the BIIBBF flag by the President of SBBC, Aziz Yong to a representative from Indonesian Big Bikes Association (IMBI) Pontianak, Mahendra. Kalimantan, Indonesia will be the host of the next BIIBBF in 2012.

Past organisers of BIIBBF since its first event in 2000 were SBBC Sabah, PEMODA Brunei, Victoria's Arm Big Bikers (VABB) Sarawak, LA Riders Labuan and IMBI Pontianak.

The festival hopes to help foster closer relations between big motorcycle riders and fans all over Borneo and also to exchange views and ideas.

Harley bikers rev up safety demonstration

Saturday, May 28, 2011

TO EDUCATE schoolchildren on the issue of road safety, Jerudong International School (JIS) invited Harley Owners Group Brunei (HOGB) to do a demonstration for its kindergarten students aged between four and five.

Sixteen bikers, composed of HOGB high committee members led by their director Abd Malek Hj Hamdani, joined the safety demonstration.

Lessons on safe motorcycle riding habits were presented to the youngsters as they gawked and gazed at the roaring machines.

The students also had the chance to learn about the history of Harley Davidson of Brunei and HOGB in a short briefing by Alan Lim Yu Neng and Ladies of Harley's Nur Khadijah Hj Ismail.

This is the second time HOGB took part in the JIS educational ride. The first educational ride was held last year.

"HOGB is proud to work with JIS in supporting such event , it is very important for the students to gain more knowledge on transportation especially motorcycle since the number of motorcyclists in Brunei Darussalam is increasing from year to year", the school cited in its press release.

Anne Pimblott, the kindergarten schoolteacher in-charge of the 33 pupils told The Brunei Times yesterday, "We have been looking at different forms of transport for the last two weeks. As part of that we try to include a couple of real life experiences as that is how children learn best, " she said.

Pimblott stated, "By riding our own bicycles to meet the motorcyclists, we were able to compare pedal power with an engine, size, safety precautions (riding boots, helmets, clothing etc) effect on the environment and sound. The Brunei Times
